Jagdeep Dhankhar, born on May 18, 1951 (age 73), in Kithana, Rajasthan, is India’s 14th Vice President, starting from 2022. He serves as the chairperson of the Rajya Sabha (Council of States) and plays a key role in parliamentary proceedings. The Vice President is the second-highest constitutional office in India and steps in as acting President in the absence of the President. While the role is largely ceremonial, the Vice President’s influence is significant in legislative matters and maintaining the functioning of the Parliament.

The Vice President of India is elected by an electoral college, consisting of members of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The candidate who secures a majority of votes is appointed for a term of 5 years.
