Narendra Modi, born on September 17, 1950 (age 74), in Vadnagar, Gujarat, is India’s 14th and current Prime Minister, starting from 2014. He represents Varanasi as a Member of Parliament and is a top leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Modi started his political career with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and played an important role in the BJP’s alliance, called the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Some of his major achievements include starting the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and removing Article 370, which changed the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

A Prime Minister is selected by securing a majority of seats in the Lok Sabha. The political party or coalition with at least 272 seats nominates the leader, who is then appointed by the President of India.
