Droupadi Murmu, born on June 20, 1958 (age 66), in Mayurbhanj, Odisha, is India’s 15th President, starting from 2022. She is the ceremonial head of state and the supreme commander of the armed forces. The Prime Minister, currently Narendra Modi, is the head of government and holds executive power, leading the country in policymaking and administration. The President appoints the Prime Minister, who must have the support of the majority in the Lok Sabha. The President’s role is largely symbolic, while the Prime Minister runs the day-to-day operations of the government.

The President of India is elected by an electoral college, which includes elected members of the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, and State Legislative Assemblies. The candidate with a majority of votes is appointed for a term of 5 years.
