United Nations: Global Peace and Security Since 1945

The United Nations (UN) is an international organization founded in 1945, consisting of 193 member states, aimed at promoting global peace, security, and cooperation. It has six main organs, including the Security Council, which has five permanent members with veto power: China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The current Secretary-General, António Guterres, has been serving since January 1, 2017. The UN also focuses on sustainable development, human rights, and humanitarian aid through specialized agencies like UNICEF and WHO.
